The World’s First Direct-Injection LPG Hybrid Engine – Born in Romania 🚗🔥

 Just when you thought the future of cars was all about batteries and silence, Horse Technologies (a joint venture between Renault and Geely) decided to spice things up with… gas. Not just any gas, but liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), injected directly into the heart of a brand-new 1.2-liter turbocharged hybrid engine. Meet the HR12 LPG – the world’s first mass-produced direct-injection LPG hybrid.


What Makes It Special?

Most LPG engines today use indirect injection, where fuel mixes with air before entering the cylinder. It works, but it’s about as efficient as trying to make espresso with instant coffee. The HR12 LPG, however, uses direct injection – delivering fuel right into the combustion chamber for cleaner, stronger, and more efficient performance.

Oh, and did we mention it comes with a 48V mild hybrid system? That means smoother acceleration, extra torque when you need it, and lower emissions. Basically, it’s like giving your car a double shot of espresso – but eco-friendly.

And don’t worry about losing trunk space – the LPG tank cleverly replaces the spare tire’s spot, so your luggage won’t have to fight for space with the fuel system.

While the auto world races toward full electrification, Horse Technologies is taking a more realistic approach: acknowledging that not every market can go 100% electric tomorrow. By combining LPG, hybrid technology, and Euro 6e emissions compliance (ready for Euro 7, too), the HR12 LPG is proof that internal combustion still has a few tricks up its sleeve.
